Welcome to the Fantasy Farm!
This is not a blog of journal entries and goings on. Instead this is a project oriented blog specifically for those who homeschool.
I’ve been struggling, this year, coming up with something for my youngest two kids to study for science and health. I desperately wanted something that would be fun, hands-on, and yet “meat-y” enough. I need, per our state’s regulations, “evidence” to show that the kids have done work in all school subjects. So whatever I pick for science and health needs to be documented.
The idea of a farm popped upon me.
Actually, the idea of the farm wasn’t my own; it was my youngest saying he’d love to live on a farm that brought the idea to my mind. And what an idea it is! We can easily cover science (botony, zoology, weather, etc.) and health (nutrition, home-ec. type stuff, etc.). Wee-haw!
So, we are creating one!
I’m a city-gal, and a real farm just isn’t something I could have right now, so everything is going to have to be imagined, researched and / or experienced through field trips or experiments.
We have roped a couple of friends into doing this year-long project with us, and for that reason, it dawned on me that it would be good to have a central location to put up assignments.
It doesn’t have to be a private thing though, so you can feel more than welcome to join in.
And, remember, you are creating your own farm, so anything (within reason) can go.
Feel free to add this small button to your blog if you choose to participate.

Because WordPress places the newest posts first, I am posting links here in the order in which they were originally posted.
-
Part 1 — the idea of the farm is, er, firmly planted
-
Part 2 — spiders
-
Part 3 — hardiness zones
-
Part 4 — livestock brands
-
Part 5 — self-portrait
You will discover that most posts are framed as a diary entry. You can use this as a “story-starter” and a jump off point. You may either copy and paste them to use, or use them as an idea to write your own journal entry.
Many items I will not go into any depth of the activities you could do (though I might point out some cool ones). For example, you could add much to the spider post by including sketches, diagrams, extra notes, etc. Feel free to add according to your interest and ability level.
Oh, and please remember that we are working on these assignments ourselves, so it may take a bit, depending on the bunny trails we may discover, for me to post new topics.
